what caught my eye this week… I always love seeing the TWA Flight Center when pulling into JFK. It makes me want to dress up as my best Betty Draper and wait for my flight there instead, with a cocktail, not worrying about having to go through security and the liquids in my bag. Here’s a glimpse of the abandoned terminal before it goes under major renovations. Speaking of Mad Men, Matthew Weiner talks about …

My Life

My Week

Last Sunday was a gorgeous, sunny day so we went for a long walk around Brooklyn. How beautiful are these pea shoots at the Carroll Gardens farmers market? Loved this back area of GRDN, a cute garden/plant shop in Boerum Hill. And right next door, the logo and weathered sign of Mile End Deli. I love the ceilings in NYC. So many ceilings, so little time. This one’s from the Steven Alan men’s shop. Cute, …

Greek Yogurt with Strawberry Snow

I think I invented this. A quick google would tell me if that’s true, but… eh. I’m going with it. I go through yogurt phases. I’m into it, and then I lose interest. Last week I chose to be into it, so I bought some and frozen strawberries to go with it. I don’t know what I thought I was going to do with the strawberries… warm them up, I guess? I took them out …

Weleda Everon Lip Balm

This is it: hands-down my favorite lip balm. The lip balm. I’ve tried a bunch — these lips need moisturizing — and I crown Weleda Everon Lip Balm the winner. I keep one in my purse, one in my travel bag, one in my bathroom. I’m making sure there’s never a time that I want it and don’t have it. I’ve been using it for years. Yes, there have been times when I’ve checked out …

My Life

My Week

Last week a friend and I hit the Whitney for the massive Jeff Koons exhibit, the last before the museum moves to its new location downtown. So much Jeff Koons, and minimalism this was not. But first, I fell in love with this on the way: “Hollywood Africans” by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Those colors! A detail shot. I love the black and white against that yellow. Loved this paper collage and ink piece by Alex Katz: …

How To Make

How to Make Whipped Body Butter

I would shrivel up and crumble into flaky pieces without this body butter. I envy people who can wash and not put on a moisturizer and be fine with it. How?! It’s like they have magical skin. I was dealt some bad, dry-skin genes and I just have to deal with it. When my skin gets wet, I slather on the protective layer of emollient goodness that my body refuses to make on its own. …

what caught my eye this week… 1. Something I’ve always wondered about: 10 men explain why they became gynecologists. (I’ve only ever used a female gynecologist. Except for my last exam, when the nurse asked if it would be ok for a student to work on me and I said yes… and in walked a guy. I found it awkward. But interesting to read these reasons.) 2. Boot season is back. Here’s how to care …

Spicy Peanut Sauce

Is there anything better than peanut sauce? That’s a trick question. Of course there is, come on. But it’s high up on the list of good things. Not as high as kittens or rainbows, but pretty high. Actually, I take that back. There’s a good chance this peanut sauce is better than rainbows. Rainbows are pretty magical, but this peanut sauce can top stir-fried veggies and tofu with noodles, or be drizzled over roasted Brussels …
